The Prince My Soul Longs For
As ladies, we secretly dream of a Prince Charming who would love us passionately enough to be willing to die for us. Why? Because the act of dying for another is the ultimate sign of devoted love. Yet, so often we tend to overlook the fact that such a Man does exist and He did freely give His life for us.
Perhaps we neglect to acknowledge this fact because we never actually saw it with our own two eyes. Since we live in such a visual age, I want you to imagine a picture with me. Allow this visual to come to life in your mind's eye, as if you were watching a movie or experiencing it yourself.
Are you ready? Picture this:
There you stand at the foot of the cross as it looms above you. Gazing up, you find Jesus watching you tenderly. His chest heaves heavily as His breath becomes harder to take in. His air intake begins to take on the sound of wheezing gasps as the weight of the world's sin rests on His shoulders. He has been beaten to a pulp, being so disfigured that it is hard to tell that He is even a man. But as He hangs there, struggling to stay alive, with His life's blood being drained from His body; He looks you in the eyes with such passionate love it seems as if flames of fire were burning in His eyes. His gaze is like that of an enamored suitor who lays his heart before the one he loves. Enduring indescribable pain, He musters all His strength to tell you "I am doing this because I love you. If you were the only girl in the world, I would die for you and endure all this torture over and over again just so I could have you by My side for the rest of eternity. It doesn't matter what you have done or what you will ever do. I love you."
Psalm 22:12-17 vividly portrays and paints the picture of what Jesus endured.
"My enemies surround me like a herd of bulls;
fierce bulls of Bashan have hemmed me in! Like lions they open their jaws against me,
roaring and tearing into their prey. My life is poured out like water,
and all my bones are out of joint.
My heart is like wax,
melting within me. My strength has dried up like sunbaked clay.
My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth.
You have laid me in the dust and left me for dead. My enemies surround me like a pack of dogs;
an evil gang closes in on me.
They have pierced my hands and feet. I can count all my bones.
My enemies stare at me and gloat."(Psalm 22:12-17 NLT)
Now tell me, what man would be willing to endure all the torture that Jesus went through and still say you were worth it all even to the point of giving his life up for you?
You weren't even around to care about what He was doing for you or to even appreciate it. He could have said "I've had enough of this" and summoned legions of angels to come and defend Him, but then it would have been curtains for you and I. We would have been doomed to eternal damnation, with no hope of rescue whatsoever.
"Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from beginning to end. He did not give up because of the cross! On the contrary, because of the joy that was waiting for him, he thought nothing of the disgrace of dying on the cross, and he is now seated at the right side of God's throne."(Hebrews 12:2 GNT)
He considered us joy! He looked ahead into the future, and seeing you said "she is worth it all". He chose you before you had the chance to do anything good or bad. That means that His love isn't based on your accomplishments or the lack thereof. And because His love is not based on your performance, nothing you do can change the intensity of His love towards you. What marvelous news!
That certainly removes all the pressure off of you.
Jesus desires to lavish His love on you every moment of every day. Ask Him today to reveal to you the depths of His love in a new way. He truly is the Prince Charming our souls long for.
